THEME OF THE WEEK: TREES

BY KATIE ZWICK

I created this monotype and stitched into it to create a mix of organic and geometric shapes. I came up with the idea after driving back to Scranton on I-84 at 7:30AM one day. In the winter the trees are bare but the thin crosshatched lines of the branches emulate soft treetops, while the dark trunks are clearly visible against the dry salty ground.

I took this photograph while hiking at Ricketts Glen State Park! It reminded me of this proverb because a great Sunday makes for a great week. The font is Hipstelvetica by José Gomes; I love the lines and geometric forms of this typeface and I think they resonate well with the trees in my photo.
